Frequently asked questions

Concrete situations individuals and businesses come to me with, each with an honest answer about what I can do.

Computer, laptop and internet

My computer is slow or keeps freezing. Can you help with that?

Yes. That is classic IT support: I first work out what is actually causing it rather than replacing things blindly, then explain what I did. On site in Schoten and the surrounding area, or remotely.

My wifi or internet is not working properly. Is that something for you?

Yes. Problems with your connection, router or peripherals fall under IT support. Briefly describe what you have already tried up front, so we do not lose time on it.

I have a new laptop, printer or phone. Can you set it up?

Yes. Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software are part of the service, for computers, laptops, smartphones and peripherals.

I would rather understand how something works than have it done every time.

That works. I always explain what I am doing and why, and I can write instructions down for you or put them on your laptop. One-to-one computer and software training is also available, at your pace and in plain language.

Accounts, itsme and government services

I cannot get into itsme. Can you help me with that?

Yes. Help with itsme and with Belgian online government services is one of the most common requests. I help you work through the official procedure of the service itself correctly, and make sure you know how to get back in on your own afterwards.

I need to sort something out on a government website and cannot work it out.

Support with accounts, digital services and online platforms is part of IT support, including online government services. I do it together with you rather than instead of you, so you can manage it yourself next time.

I have lost the password to an account.

I cannot recover passwords, but I can guide you through the official recovery procedure of that service and then help you keep your access safely from then on.

For businesses: software, automation and AI

We do the same manual work every week. Can that be automated?

Often yes. Automating repetitive or administrative processes with scripts, integrations or custom software is a core service. Usually a small script is enough, and then you will not get a heavyweight tool either.

Can AI actually save us time, or is it mostly hype?

Both, depending on the use case. I use AI daily as a working part of software development, not as a demo. The honest answer for your situation depends on the work that costs too much time today, so we look at that concretely.

We have Microsoft Copilot but get little out of it.

There is support and training for exactly that. I help you put AI tools to practical use inside existing work processes, instead of leaving them standing alongside.

We are unsure about buying a tool or system. Can you take a look?

Yes. IT advice here means thinking along about the right choice, so you do not pay for technology you do not need. You get advice without a sales pitch.

We need a small piece of custom software. Is that too small for you?

Probably not, because smaller assignments actually take priority. Designing, programming, adapting and maintaining software is my day job. If your project is too large after all, I will say so immediately.

Practical: how it works, price and availability

Do you come on site or work remotely?

Both. On site in Schoten and the surrounding area: Antwerp, Brasschaat, Merksem and Wijnegem. Work further afield, or entirely digital work, can be done remotely.

When are you available?

IT aan Huys is a side business alongside a full-time job. Every Friday is kept free for client work, and beyond that an evening or a weekend is possible by arrangement.

How quickly will I get a reply?

Normally the same day. Email is fastest.

What does it cost?

It depends on what is needed, so there is no price list on this site. Describe your question briefly and you get an honest estimate up front of what is possible, roughly what it will cost and whether I am the right person for it.

Why is there no contact form on this site?

Because email is faster and clearer. The site is deliberately static, with no cookies and no trackers. You reach me directly by email or phone.

What if my question is not a fit for you?

Then I will say so straight away. If a project is not a fit, or you are better off with someone else, you hear that up front rather than afterwards.

Not seeing your question?

Briefly describe your situation, which device or system it concerns and what you have already tried. You will get an honest answer about what is possible and whether I am the right person for it.
